Black Athena: The Afroasiatic Roots of Classical Civilization (1987, 1991, and 2006) by Martin Bernal
What is classical about Classical Civilization? In one of the most audacious works of scholarship ever written, Martin Bernal challenges the whole basis of our thinking about this question. He argues that Classical civilization has deep roots in Afrosiatic cultures, but that these influences have been systematically suppressed since the eighteenth century - chiefly for racist reasons. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and understood the imaginative honesty the author was purposefully crafting. Many (from my research) have sided against this read because of its heavy reliance on Greek Mythology. Though I understand tthat stance, many have lacked in their own research and have yet to discover the truth that Mr. Bernal tried to expose in this timeless 3 volume classic.
My hope is that you read with an open heart and mind.
